INAB/CERTH

The Institute of Applied Biosciences at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB/CERTH) was established in 2012 after the merging of the Institute of Agrobiotechnology (INA) and the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Research (IBE). INAB is actively moving towards the international upgrading of research conducted in Greece in the broad field of life sciences and the production of innovative products of high value.
INAB is also active in Translation Medical Research with the main goal of understanding human diseases, developing laboratory applications and transferring them to clinical practice. The main areas of interest of INAB are: (i) improving the prevention and management of patients with "degenerative diseases" (cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, etc.), (ii) innovative diagnosis and research of key mechanisms in cancer (iii) new approaches to gene and cell therapy and (iv) pharmacological research focusing on controlling the bioequivalence of generic drugs. As part of the above activities, INAB researchers develop cellular models and bioassays that mimic the physiological conditions of the body. Such bioassays are used to study particle toxicity and their effect on cell survival and proliferation. In addition, the genomic and biochemical processes that affect cell models are studied using advanced molecular biology techniques.
